Skybolt has supplied STC’d fastener conversion kits for the Cessna aircraft that used the Lord brand platemount with Southco fastener configurations since 1992. We found that between the C150, C172, C177, and C182, each aircraft presented a set of unique challenges to the fastener conversion to our CLoc®. Although not practical, complete elimination of the rubber Lord-type mounts would be ideal, but that would require a complete new cowling to accomplish! Skybolt is constantly working and innovating the best designs to accomplish improvements. The newly approved STC fixes one of the most major challenges with the Cessna 150 cowlings.

The C150 configuration had a restriction to modifying the side mount fasteners due to the doubler on the lower cowl. This doubler limited two important “retrofits”. Although an improvement, we could only install the CLoc® 2000 Series studs along the sides and any allowance for correct cowling “fit” along the sides was almost impossible.

Skybolt has designed and achieved FAA/STC approval to replace the cowling doublers to allow the much needed conversion to the CLoc® 4000 Series receptacles and studs. This revision will allow enough adjustment for the fasteners to achieve a perfect fit along the sides of the cowling. The end result is a Cessna 150 cowling that is easily converted to a Cessna 152 cowling fastener configuration using all CLoc® 4000 Series studs.

The doubler retrofit is an easy installation with standard rivet tools. The end result is a cowling that fits and fasteners that work!
